Most important attribute of a business leader?
As a company we believe that the best way to achieve results is through teamwork and collaboration – within our organisation and with our customers, partners and suppliers. I believe that one of the most important attributes of a successful business leader is the ability to build world class teams, empower people, and spot and nurture talent and ideas. It is important to excite people and motivate them to embrace change and innovate. And most importantly of all, have fun!
What single action would you take to make business more responsible?
I think businesses need to take more responsibility for building the talent pool for their industry for the future. This means they need to think carefully about the skills that they will need across the world and where they need them and to work closely with the education sector to develop those skills and to provide different options for people to join the organisation at different stages of their career.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
Not so much a mistake but I would have put even more effort into developing my internal and external network development as this is the most important thing in life and business. It seems too easy to say things like ‘it’s not what you know but who you know’ and ‘people buy from people’ – but it is so true. The people you have in your team – no matter what industry you are in – are what makes it an enjoyable place to work in and it’s what makes customers want to do business with you.
